How do you hang a round mirror?
Use two fixings, not one. A round mirror on a single centre hook has nothing to stop it rotating, so it drifts out of true every time the door slams, and on a beaded or patterned frame that rotation is immediately visible. Two D-rings set level on the back, roughly a third of the way down from the top, hold the orientation permanently.
How do you fit D-rings?
Measure down about a third of the mirror height from the top on both sides and mark at equal heights, then screw the rings into the frame with screws short enough not to come through the front. Hang from two wall fixings set exactly the same distance apart. Measure between the rings and transfer that measurement to the wall rather than eyeballing it.
How do you measure a round mirror?
Diameter, edge to edge across the widest point, and state whether that includes the frame. Most listed sizes are the outside diameter of the frame rather than the glass, so a 30 inch round mirror with a wide beaded frame may show only 24 inches of actual reflection. The sizes here are frame measurements, 16 to 40 inches across.
How do you hang a heavy round mirror?
Into studs, with the D-ring spacing set to land on them, or with toggle bolts if the stud positions do not line up. A large round mirror concentrates its weight in a small footprint compared with a wide rectangular one, so the load per fixing is higher than the overall weight suggests. Check the fixing rating against the stated weight before drilling.
What size for a vanity?
Aim for a mirror between two thirds and three quarters of the width of the vanity below. Over a 36 inch vanity that puts you at 24 to 27 inches across, which is the smaller end of this range. The mirror should never be wider than the vanity, because the eye reads the overhang as a mistake rather than a choice.
How do you decorate around one?
Give it space. A round mirror works because it is the only curve on the wall, so flanking it with two more round objects cancels the effect. A pair of straight-sided sconces or a rectangular console beneath makes the circle read as deliberate. Leave the wall either side clear rather than filling it with a gallery arrangement.
Frames in this collection
Beaded frames with a carved edge, wavy and scalloped outlines, and plain flat profiles in metal. Frame material varies across wood, metal and composite, so check the individual listing for what a given piece is built from. Depth runs 1 to 3 inches, so none of these projects far enough from the wall to catch a shoulder in a hallway.
