A weathered old pine finish gives this shoe storage bench the look of a piece that has been around a while. Thick slabs of pine join wood panels in the build, sealed with a protective coating that helps it resist humidity.

Two sliding drawers sit just under the seat, sized for sandals, kids' shoes and other small things. Below, a gridded rack holds more pairs, and tapered legs lift the whole thing off the floor. A soft beige cushion rides on top, so you can sit to lace up a child's shoes rather than crouch.

It stays compact. The bench is 39 inches wide and only 14 inches deep, and the top is rated for 220 pounds, each drawer for 17 and the bottom rack for 66.
