Three things sit here, and they solve unrelated problems. A chair mat goes under a rolling chair so the castors run on a hard surface instead of grinding into carpet pile or scuffing a wood floor. A desk cover is a clear sheet laid over a desktop so the surface underneath takes no heat rings, ink or scratches. A safe holds cash, documents and small valuables behind a lock that is meant to resist force rather than merely signal privacy.

They are grouped because none of them is furniture. You do not choose between a chair mat and a safe; you buy whichever the room needs, usually alongside a desk or a chair rather than instead of one.

Chair mats: match the mat to the floor

The single decision that matters is the floor underneath, and it is not interchangeable. A mat built for carpet has a gripper backing of small spikes that bite into the pile and stop the mat sliding. Put that mat on a hard floor and the spikes sit against the surface, which is how a wood floor gets marked. A mat built for hard floors has a smooth or lightly textured underside and will drift on carpet. Every listing states the floor it is built for, and where a supplier does not publish that, the field is left out rather than guessed.

Size is the second decision. A mat needs to cover the full travel of the chair, not just its footprint at rest, so measure the area the chair actually moves through. Listings state length and width, and for a shaped mat the lip dimension as well.

Desk covers

A clear cover protects a desktop without hiding it, which is the point on a wood or veneer surface worth looking at. Thickness is stated per listing and is the thing to read: a thicker sheet lies flatter and resists creasing, a thinner one is easier to cut to a shape. Covers are sold by the measured sheet size, so check it against the desk rather than against the desk name.

Safes: what a safe does that a locked drawer does not

A filing cabinet lock is a privacy measure. The body is thin steel and gives way to hand tools, so it keeps documents out of casual view and no more. A safe uses a heavier body, bolts into the door frame, and a lock designed to resist manipulation. If the contents are cash or irreplaceable documents, that difference is the whole reason to buy one. Lock type is stated per listing, including whether emergency override keys are supplied.

What every listing states

Measured dimensions, the material, and the attribute that decides fit for that kind of product: floor type for a mat, thickness for a cover, lock type for a safe. Where a supplier does not publish one of those, it is omitted rather than estimated.
