Gazebos with Netting

A gazebo with netting is a freestanding outdoor shelter with a roof on corner posts and mesh netting that closes the sides against mosquitoes and other bugs. Nearly every gazebo here is a hardtop model with a metal roof and an aluminum or steel frame, most also carrying privacy curtains, in sizes from 8x8 to 14x24 ft.

Gazebo with mosquito netting for summer evenings

Netting turns a patio into a bug-free outdoor room. The roof gives shade and rain cover, and the mesh lets air through while keeping mosquitoes out, so dinner can run past dusk. All but one of these gazebos are hardtops that stay up year round; the exception is a 10x13 ft double roof model with a polyester canopy.

Hardtop gazebo with netting: roofs and frames

Most roofs are galvanized steel, and many are a double roof with a vent gap between the tiers so hot air escapes on sunny days. Frames are aluminum on most models and powder-coated steel on others, and a few use a solid cedar frame or a polycarbonate roof that lets daylight through. Most have hooks under the roof for string lights, a lantern or a fan.

Gazebo with netting and curtains

Nearly every model hangs privacy curtains on the same track as the netting, so you can close one side against low sun or a neighbor's view and leave the others open to the breeze. Tie the curtains back on calm days and take both layers down before a storm.

Gazebos with netting: sizes for your patio

The most common sizes are 10x12, 10x14, 12x12, 12x14, 12x16 and 12x20 ft, with options from 8x8 ft for a small patio up to 14x24 ft for a large deck. A 10x12 ft gazebo covers a dining set for four to six, and 12x16 ft or larger fits a dining set and a sofa set together.

Plan on two or more people and a full day to assemble a larger hardtop. Build on level ground, anchor the posts to a deck, concrete pad or stakes, and clear heavy snow from the roof in winter.

Frequently asked questions

What is a gazebo?
A gazebo is a freestanding outdoor structure with a roof on corner posts and open or screened sides, used for shade, dining and lounging. A gazebo with netting adds mesh panels that close the sides against bugs. Nearly all the gazebos with netting here have a hardtop metal roof and privacy curtains.
What is the difference between a pergola and a gazebo?
The difference between a pergola and a gazebo is the roof. A gazebo has a solid roof that blocks sun and rain, while a pergola has open slats or beams overhead. Gazebos with netting here add mesh sides and curtains, so they give more shelter and bug protection than a pergola.
Do you need a permit for a gazebo?
Whether you need a permit for a gazebo depends on your town and the gazebo's size, height and anchoring. Many areas allow small freestanding gazebos without one, but larger hardtops anchored to concrete may need approval. Check with your local building department and any homeowners association before you build.
How do you anchor a gazebo to concrete?
Anchor a gazebo to concrete by bolting each post base to the slab with concrete wedge anchors or sleeve anchors sized to the base plate holes. Drill with a masonry bit, set the anchors, then tighten them once the frame is square. Use stainless or galvanized anchors so they hold up outdoors.
How do you hang lights on a gazebo?
Hang lights on a gazebo from the hooks under the roof or along the frame beams, using outdoor-rated string lights and clips. Most of the hardtop gazebos with netting here have a center hook for a lantern or fan. Keep cords away from the curtain and netting tracks so the panels still slide.
