Coffee table size, height and spacing
A coffee table works best at about the height of the sofa seat or an inch or two lower, and at about two thirds the length of the sofa. Heights here run 10.3 to 27.2 inches and widths 20.1 to 55.1 inches, from low-slung designs to taller ones.
Leave about 18 inches between the table and the sofa so you can reach a drink and still walk past, and keep main walkways around 30 inches wide.
Round coffee table and other shapes

A marble coffee table brings natural stone veining to the room, and some models here use a marble top. Sintered stone, a manufactured stone on other select models, stands up to heat and scratches better than marble, and glass tops keep a small room feeling open.
Use coasters on marble, which can etch from acidic drinks, and wipe glass and sintered stone with a soft cloth and mild cleaner.
Wood coffee table construction
A wood coffee table here is most often built from MDF or engineered wood panels in a walnut, oak, natural or black finish, and some models include solid wood parts such as acacia or oak.
Metal frames, rattan, vegan leather and fiberglass also appear on select models. Dust with a soft dry cloth, and use coasters to protect the finish from heat and moisture.
