Small outdoor water fountain sizes for patios
A small outdoor water fountain fits a porch corner, a patio table or a garden bed, and the shortest designs here stand 13 inches tall. Widths run 9.4 to 23.6 inches and depths run 7.7 to 22 inches, so every design fits in a footprint under 24 inches wide.
Measure the spot first, then leave room around the basin for splash and for reaching the pump. Set the fountain on level, firm ground so water does not run over one edge.
Resin, metal and concrete outdoor water fountains
Outdoor water fountains on this page are mostly resin or plastic, with some in metal and some in concrete. Resin and plastic are lighter to carry and come in many finishes, while concrete is heavier and less likely to shift.
Gray is the most common color, followed by brown and black, with green, beige, yellow and blue also available. A gray or brown finish blends with stone paving and planting beds, while a black or blue design stands out as a focal point.
Because resin and plastic weigh less than concrete, they are easier to move to a sheltered spot for winter. Concrete designs are best left in place and covered.
Choosing the best outdoor water fountain for backyard spaces
The best outdoor water fountain for backyard use matches the space and the sound you want. A tall, narrow design suits a spot beside a door or along a fence, while a wider basin suits an open patio or garden bed.
Check where the nearest outlet sits, since many fountains need power for the pump, and keep the cord out of the water and off walkways.
Outdoor water fountain care and winter storage
Outdoor water fountain care starts with clean water and a clear pump. Scrub the basin every few weeks in warm weather, rinse the pump intake and top off water as it evaporates.
Before freezing weather, drain the fountain, bring the pump indoors and cover or store the fountain so ice cannot crack the basin.
