Modern bar height table or counter height

Height is the first choice. The bar height tables here stand 42 inches tall and pair with stools that have a 29 to 31 inch seat. The counter tables stand 36 inches tall and pair with 24 to 26 inch stools, the same height as a kitchen counter. Counter height is easier to climb into and suits families, while bar height gives more of a pub feel. Stools are sold separately.

Mid century modern bar table shapes and sizes

Shapes cover most rooms. The square tables are 31.35 and 34.5 inches across, the round mid-century table is 35.4 inches, and the slim rectangular bar table is 47.24 by 17.72 inches, narrow enough for a wall or a window. The mid-century pieces come in a natural oak finish. The largest, a 60 by 40 inch counter height dining table, seats up to six.

Two counter tables add storage. One has a gray marble-look top, a drawer with a brass bar pull and a nesting table on casters that tucks underneath. The 60 inch table sits on a storage base with doors and shelves under a marble-look top. The square bar table also has a marble-look top on black legs. Elsewhere, tops have an oak or natural wood finish.

Modern wood bar table construction and care

Most tables stand on solid hardwood legs or bases with wood tops, the round table is wood throughout, and the storage table uses solid birch with wood panels. The oak square counter table holds up to 330 pounds. Wipe tops with a damp cloth and dry them, use coasters under glasses, and check the leg bolts now and then, since tall tables take more sideways load.
