Rectangular bar height table for narrow spaces

A straight-sided top slides flat against a wall or under a window, so a rectangular table fits a narrow kitchen or breakfast nook where a round one would not. The mid-century natural oak pub table is 47.24 inches long and only 17.72 inches deep, stands 42 inches tall on splayed legs with a low foot rail, and seats up to four.

Outdoor rectangular bar table for the patio

The industrial outdoor bar table pairs a planked solid acacia top with black hairpin legs. It measures 47.25 by 18.25 inches and stands 40 inches tall, a good fit for a porch rail or the edge of a patio.

Counter height table with storage

The 60 inch counter height tables seat up to six and build storage into the base. The gray wood and the off-white and gray tables have open shelves at one end. The two-tone table has four dovetail drawers, and the marble-look table has a storage base with a shelf and a cabinet. The two-tone extendable table grows from 60 to 78 inches with an 18 inch leaf and adds wine storage and a drawer.

For a small apartment, the 39 inch marble-look counter table hides a nesting table and a drawer underneath.

Bar height table and stool pairing

Allow about 24 inches of table length per person. Pair a 40 to 42 inch bar height table with stools that have a 28 to 31 inch seat, and a 36 inch counter height table with stools that have a 24 to 27 inch seat. Tables are sold without stools. Construction: solid acacia on a metal frame on the outdoor table, and solid wood with MDF tops or wood veneers on most others.

Wipe tops with a damp cloth and dry them, and use coasters on the marble-look surfaces.

Frequently asked questions

How tall is a bar height table?
A bar height table stands about 40 to 42 inches tall, roughly the height of a home bar. The rectangular bar height tables here are 40 inches tall for the outdoor acacia table and 42 inches tall for the mid-century oak pub table. Counter height tables are lower, about 36 inches.
What is a bar height table?
A bar height table is a tall table about 40 to 42 inches high, used with bar stools that have a 28 to 31 inch seat. It suits a kitchen nook, a pub-style dining spot or a patio. The rectangular ones here have narrow tops of about 18 inches deep that fit along a wall.
Can you use bar stools at a counter height table?
Bar stools are too tall for a counter height table, since a 28 to 31 inch bar seat leaves too little knee room under a 36 inch top. Use counter stools with a 24 to 27 inch seat at the 60 inch counter height tables here, and bar stools at the 40 to 42 inch tables.
What size bar stool fits a 36 inch counter height table?
A 36 inch counter height table needs stools with a seat about 24 to 27 inches high. That leaves 10 to 12 inches of knee room under the top. Allow about 24 inches of table length per stool, so a 60 inch counter height table fits two stools on each long side.
How do you measure for bar stools?
Measure for bar stools from the floor to the underside of the table top, then subtract 10 to 12 inches to find the right seat height. A 42 inch bar table takes a 28 to 31 inch seat and a 36 inch counter table takes a 24 to 27 inch seat. Leave about 24 inches of width per stool.
