A horizontal bed folds sideways, so the closed cabinet stays low and leaves the wall above free for art or a window. The white horizontal bed closes to 47.28 inches high and 15.75 inches deep with built-in shelves and a 1000 lb rating. The brown bed is the most compact at 45.3 inches wide with lift-up cabinet storage.

Closed, the cabinets run about 15.7 to 20.6 inches deep. Vertical beds stand up to 90.4 inches tall, so check ceiling height and leave about 80 inches of floor in front for the open bed. Each model lists its mattress range, 6 to 8 or 8 to 10 inches thick, and weight ratings run 400 to 1000 lb. Select listings note that no box spring is needed.

Every bed must be anchored to wall studs or concrete, and most ship in several boxes with assembly required. Construction: MDF, plywood or solid pine with MDF panels, with wood slats on select models. Wipe finishes with a damp cloth.
