Every side is a working side
A standard bookcase has one open face and needs a wall behind it. A rotating one has shelving all the way round, so it can stand away from the wall and still be fully used. You turn it instead of walking around it.
Tall on a small base
These run from under 40 inches to 78 inches tall. On a base this narrow, load the heaviest books low and keep lighter things up top. Several are modular and can be built with fewer tiers for a lower, steadier shelf or one a child can reach.
On casters or a fixed base
Some roll on casters that lock once the shelf is in place, which lets it move between rooms without being emptied. Others turn on a fixed base and stay put. Some add a drawer or a small cabinet at the bottom for things that would get lost on an open shelf.
